Description

To acquire a Training/Light Utility Helicopter to replace the Sioux helicopter with a capability that meets the New Zealand Defence Force's contemporary needs.

Government approval

In April 2008, the Government approved a project budget of NZ$139.26 million excluding GST.

Contract

A contract was signed with Agusta Westland in May 2008 for five operational helicopters.

Current status

The first flight of Helicopter 01 took place on 12 February 2010.

The first flight of Helicopter 02 took place on 24 March 2010.

The first aircraft is scheduled for delivery in late 2010.

Training of aircrew and maintainers will be conducted in Italy in late 2010.

The last aircraft is scheduled for delivery in mid 2011.
