The Major Projects Report is the culmination of three years work by Defence, in conjunction with the Office of the Auditor-General, to improve reporting on major capability projects.

The report provides a useful framework through which quality reporting on defence capability projects can be made available. It is the intention to capitalise on this framework and produce a Major Projects Report on an annual basis.

The report signals a greater level of transparency in the reporting of major capability projects, and presents lessons to inform ongoing and future projects. As the first report of its kind to be produced in New Zealand, the report draws on examples from the United Kingdom and Australia.
