Defence Review Consultation Summary of Submissions
Introduction
This report summarises the main themes that arose from the consultation process organised by the Ministry of Defence for Review 09 during June - October 2009. It is drawn from 494 submissions and 23 consultation meetings from around New Zealand. In addition, 143 young people were surveyed or attended focus groups in order to gain insight as to how young people in particular view the Defence Force. More information about the consultation process is provided in appendix 1.
After providing some background on the submissions received from the consultation process, the first section of this report outlines the major themes that have emerged. Many themes were seen by submitters as inter-related and relevant to many of the areas covered by the Review. The next section contains a summary of the main issues raised in submissions in relation to each of the 10 questions provided on the submission form. The final section summarises the outcomes of the survey of young people.
