Intermediate Outcome 3: New Zealand security values and security interests advanced
The New Zealand Defence Force Intermediate Outcome three is "New Zealand security values and security interests advanced" which has two main parts, "collaboratively develop and shape the international security order" and "effective participation in the international security order". These two parts share a common five sub parts, "effective contribution to international security dialogue"; "abide by international agreements"; "confidence and transparency built"; "effective membership of organisations and co-operative groupings"; "effective direct defence diplomacy and relationships". The Ministry directly contributes mostly through its policy and planning output, for example management of multilateral and bilateral defence relations.
